Two tourists from China were left shaken and traumitised following a frightening encounter with a Malaysian couple who allegedly assaulted one of them over a failed extortion attempt.
A clip of the incident has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and concern among Malaysians who warned tourists to stay away from illegal taxi drivers like a plague.
Demanded RM836 fare from tourists
According to China Press, the tourist said she and her companion were looking for a bus to take them to their hotel from KLIA Terminal 2.
A local man and his wife then approached them and offered to transport them to their hotel for RM60, which they readily agreed and entered the car.
Upon arriving at the hotel, the man drove past the destination and suddenly demanded RM836 from the tourists, which was 14 times higher than the previously agreed amount.

Locked tourists inside car and assaulted them
When the tourists refused to comply, the man’s wife began yelling about them having to “follow her rules” before locking the doors to prevent them from getting out.
After driving around the hotel multiple times in order to pressure the tourists into paying RM836, the man eventually stopped in front of the hotel but still didn’t let the tourists go.
Thankfully, hotel staff came to the tourists’ rescue when they saw them banging on the car window and screaming for help.
Outside of the car, the man’s wife accused the tourists of cheating and stealing a handphone, along with a demand that they compensate her for it.

Instead of calling the police, hotel staff reportedly advised the tourists to pay the Malaysian couple in order to avoid more trouble.
A physical fight then broke out, with the tourist claiming that her companion was slapped three times by the man’s wife.
A bystander who tried to calm the situation was also caught in the crossfire, where he was allegedly choked by the man.

In the end, the man and his wife fled the scene when the tourists finally managed to contact the police.
