In Malaysia, one of the common headaches we often face while living in major cities like KL is the lack of pedestrian walkways and the fact that motorbikes often use it even when one exists.
A tourist had a taste of it firsthand and highlighted the danger it posed to pedestrians who had no idea a motorcycle was coming from behind.
Tourist asks why motorbikes use pedestrian walkways
In a more than a minute-long clip by the tourist who goes by the name Travel with Chris on Facebook, he is seen filming himself walking along a pedestrian walkway with his fiancé not far from KL Tower.
As he filmed himself walking, two motorcyclists drove their way past him, with one of them having the decency to say “Thank you” to Chris for giving way.
This bizarre act left Chris feeling rather dazed and confused, who said “it was nuts” to see motorcyclists sharing the same lane as pedestrians during rush hour.
He also criticised the motorcyclists for endangering others and shared about how he nearly got hit by one as he was unaware of a motorbike coming towards him from behind as he was walking along the pedestrian walkway.
“Let me know down the comment section…is this normal? I mean what if there was somebody on a wheelchair here?
“I don’t mean to sound like a Karen but goddamn, I almost got hit and so did my fiancé!” he exclaimed as he filmed more motorcyclists using the walkway.

In the comment section, Chris’ video sparked a mixed reaction among netizens over the clip.
Some were embarrassed by the motorcyclists’ lack of civil consciousness and apologised to Chris for the unpleasant experience while urging the authorities to take action.
On the other hand, some felt Chris was complaining over nothing major, with one telling him to give motorcyclists “a break” as the road he was at suffers from massive congestion during peak hours, thus forcing motorcyclists to use the pedestrian walkway.
