Genting Malaysia Berhad has confirmed that vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands will be subject to toll charges in the near future. The exact date of implementation will be announced later.
Charge introduced for private road upkeep
The company explained that Jalan Genting Highlands is a 24-km private road built and maintained entirely by Genting Malaysia since the 1960s.

Due to heavy usage and ageing infrastructure, the cost of maintenance has grown significantly over the years,” it wrote.
“User pays” system to support sustainability
In its statement, Genting Malaysia said the upcoming toll follows the “user pays” principle. The charge will help cover costs related to upkeep, repair, slope management, and emergency preparedness along the road.
Genting Malaysia highlighted that the teams are stationed 24/7 at mid-hill and hilltop checkpoints, ready to respond to emergencies and ensure smooth travel for road users.
Supports broader tourism growth
According to the company, the road not only serves Resorts World Genting but also supports various other businesses and tourist destinations in the area.
The road has played a key role in boosting tourism, creating jobs, and supporting both the state and national economies.
Genting Malaysia stressed that this is a private initiative on a private road.
Despite its public use, the responsibility for maintenance has always fallen solely on the company.
