A local TikToker recently decided to share his personal ranking of Malaysia’s “most useless” university courses and anything remotely creative didn’t make the cut.
In his video, DMA Islam singled out Mass Communication, Theatre, Music, and Traditional Dance as courses that, in his words, “aren’t worth taking.”
Naturally, his hot take sparked a wave of online backlash from Malaysians who were more than ready to defend their fields.
His argument? Don’t waste a loan on dancing
The TikToker claimed that learning how to dance or perform doesn’t require a degree.

In fact, he said people were “stupid” to use PTPTN loans on creative courses, suggesting they just get a job and gain experience instead.
One of the dumbest courses in Malaysia is Mass Comm. But that’s still okay compared to Theatre, Music, and Traditional Dance.
“If you want to learn how to dance, you don’t need a degree. That’s just stupid. No need to take a PTPTN loan. You’re better off working and getting actual experience,” he said.
To top it off, he implied that theatre students only join the course to “enjoy life” and not for actual education.
“Most theatre students don’t even want to study. They just want to have fun.”
Netizens weren’t impressed
The comments section was flooded with clapbacks. Many pointed out that while he was quick to mock, he clearly didn’t understand the effort or discipline these degrees require.
“Don’t look down on theatre, music, or dance. Try joining first, then you’ll see how tough the industry is. I’m speaking up because it’s already hard enough to preserve our own traditions in our own country ” said one commenter.

“If everyone studies engineering, then who’s going to tell stories, report the news, or produce the shows you watch?”
