It’s hard to believe that in a world where kindness should thrive, some acts of cruelty still leave us questioning humanity.
One such story recently came to light in Kemaman, where a disabled man was brutally beaten and dragged.
The incident, which went viral online, has shaken the community and ignited a fierce call for justice.
According to Astro Awani, Acting Kemaman District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Wan Muhammad Wan Jaafar, confirmed that three men, aged between 18 and 60, have been arrested and are under investigation.
“Rest, dad. This world is too cruel for you”
What makes this story even more gut-wrenching is the raw glimpse into the victim’s family’s pain, shared through videos on TikTok.
In one post, the victim’s child wrote, “Rest, dad. This world is too cruel for you.”
The caption, paired with heart-wrenching visuals, spoke volumes about the emotional toll on their family.
The posts quickly gained traction, resonating with thousands who were moved by the family’s grief and strength in the face of unimaginable pain.
Finding gratitude in the midst of heartbreak
Despite their suffering, the victim’s family took a moment to thank the public for their support.
In another TikTok post, the child expressed gratitude for the prayers and help extended to their family.
They also shared that their father is receiving further treatment at Kemaman Hospital.
Activist group to sue perpetrators for RM1mil
Amidst the outpouring of public support, activist group Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) has stepped forward with plans to take legal action against the perpetrators, reported Berita Harian.
The group announced their intention to file a RM1 million lawsuit as a strong message against the mistreatment of vulnerable individuals, particularly those with disabilities.
“This lawsuit reflects the value of the damages caused by the attackers, who acted beyond the limits of the law,” said G57 chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar.
He added that the group’s legal team would reach out to the victim’s family to discuss moving forward with the case.
Zulkarnain also urged the public to maintain consistency in their stand against cruelty.
“We oppose the cruelty of Israel, yet incidents like this show behaviours akin to the same oppression we criticise. We urge the victim’s family not to withdraw the police report, even if efforts are made to persuade them otherwise,” he stated.
Support for vendors affected by the incident
Acknowledging the incident’s unintended impact on vendors at the farmers’ market, G57 pledged to cover any losses incurred due to the victim’s accidental crash into a stall.
The incident, which began as a small mishap when the 47-year-old victim’s motorcycle struck a vendor’s stall, escalated into violence.
The victim, who suffers from a mental disability, was attacked by several individuals, leaving him injured.
The victim was treated as an outpatient at Kemaman Hospital. Meanwhile, police have detained three men, aged 18 to 60, to assist with investigations under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
