CHANGSHA – For three years, this grey-haired food takeaway rider has been running around the streets of Changsha, China. The 54-year-old works 12 hours a day, Mondays to Sundays, chalking up about 70 to 80 food deliveries a day.
According to Xiaoxiang Morning News, his 24-year-old son is jobless ever since his graduation three years ago because he is too obsessed with getting a professional occupation.
He is forced to work 12 hours every day to support his whole family. “My old father is over 80 years old, my wife doesn’t have a stable job, and my son has been out of work for three years after graduation,” he said.
High-intensity work can sometimes be overwhelming for the 54-year-old. “When I climbed the stairs, my lumbar spine and my legs hurt. Sometimes I feel like wanting to quit the job, but when I think of my family, I know I have to be persistent.”
“I want my son to get a job. But my deepest hope is that he will step out of his room and live a normal life soon.”
It is reported that his son is unwilling to communicate with him, spending most of his time alone in the room. His son even refuses to eat together and seldom steps out of the house. The old man desperately hopes that someone can persuade and help his son to step out of his room and get back to a normal life one day.
The upper age limit for food a delivery man in China is 56 years old, implying that he can only deliver food for less than 2 years more. “If I can’t run takeaways later and lose my job, I don’t know what to do,” the 54-year-old said.
