A homeowner in Taman Hillview, Hulu Kelang, was left having to grapple with a huge financial loss after a group of thieves broke into the house and made off with a safe.
CCTV footage of the heist also made its way to social media, where it showed three men carrying what appeared to be a safe out from the premise, reported NST.
Theft discovered by employee
In a statement by Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid, he said the incident was discovered on Dec 26 at around 12.15pm when the homeowner’s employee went to the house to charge an electric vehicle.
When she arrived, she saw that the kitchen back door had been forced open and decided to take a closer look.

In doing so, she found out that a safe had gone missing from the master bedroom, leaving the homeowner with an estimated loss of RM2 million.
Suspects arrested & released
Harian Metro reported that police later arrested five men and a foreign woman. But all of them were later released after investigations found that none of them were involved in the theft.

Khairul assured that police are still working on tracking down the real suspects as investigations continue.
The case is being probed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking, which carries a jail term of up to five years and can be extended to 14 years if theft is involved.
