Do you still remember how it felt travelling overseas? Have you been itching to take that long-deserved vacation outside of Malaysia once the pandemic’s over? If you answered “Yes” to both questions, we have GOOD NEWS for you!
The Thai government has announced that they will be welcoming tourists who have been vaccinated starting next January. Visitors will not be required to undergo quarantine and can travel as soon as they land.
According to Kwong Wah Daily, the Cabinet has approved the Vaccine Regulatory Commission of Thailand’s suggestion to accept vaccinated tourists in four phases.
Starting April 1, those who show proof of their second vaccination dose can enter several testing spots where they will undergo quarantine for only one week in designated hotels and centres.
But when January 2022 comes around, tourists who have received two doses and tested negative for COVID-19 can enter Thailand without quarantine.
Thailand will be opening its borders in four phases:
First phase
(April to June, Second Quarter of 2021)
Testing spots, including main tourism attractions like Phuket, Krabi, Phang-Nga, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, etc., are open to those who can prove that they have been vaccinated. They are also to be quarantined for seven days.
Second phase
(July to September, Third Quarter of 2021)
Tourists who are vaccinated and tested negative for COVID-19 can enter and remain in Phuket without quarantine. After seven days, they can travel freely within Thailand. However, those landing at testing spots other than Phuket will still require seven days of quarantine.
Third phase
(October to December, Fourth Quarter of 2021)
Tourists entering testing spots like Krabi, Phang-Nga, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, etc., do not need to be quarantined. After seven days in any of these areas, they are allowed to travel freely.
Fourth phase
(January 2022 onwards)
Quarantines will no longer be required for tourists who produce valid proof of their vaccination and have tested negative for COVID-19.
