Money can be a thorny subject for some families, where the mere mention of it can lead to heated arguments and sometimes, unspeakable things being done.
Angry that her father wouldn’t lend her money, a woman in Thailand let her rage get the better of her and proceeded to set both him and the house alight, resulting in his demise.
Thai woman sets dad on fire over money
According to a report by Thai news outlet Thairath, the grisly crime took place on Jan 31, where the 73-year-old victim and his house were reduced to a burning heap.
The next day, police arrived at the crime scene and discovered the victim’s charred remains. They also found signs that showed he had been tied up, leading them to suspect foul play was involved in the case.
Police later brought in the victim’s daughter, who had been living with him in the same house, for questioning that lasted 31 hours.
Initially, the woman denied any involvement in the case, but eventually cracked and confessed to the crime when police produced proof of her DNA being found underneath her father’s fingernails.
According to her confession, she had asked her father to request for money from her stepbrother, but her request was flatly rejected.
In a rage, the woman, who was also intoxicated at the time, shoved her father to the ground and tied him up using cables from electrical appliances before setting his clothes on fire, which eventually spread throughout the entire house.
After committing the crime, she withdrew ฿60,000 (approx. RM7,900) from her father’s savings account and allegedly spent it all on herself.
And this wasn’t the first time the woman had requested for money from her father, where she often demanded for money despite her father’s meagre income, which came solely from state welfare meant for the elderly.
