A Jalur Gemilang poster with only 12 stripes instead of the correct 14, posted on Terengganu UMNO Youth’s Facebook page, has drawn heavy criticism online.
The error prompted UMNO Youth chief Datuk Akmal Saleh to demand strict action against those responsible.

Akmal: ‘Wrong is wrong’
Akmal confirmed that the mistake came from a member of the Terengganu UMNO Youth team responsible for creating the poster.
He said a police report must be lodged and urged authorities to investigate.

I don’t want this to end with just an apology. Wrong is wrong, even if it comes from my own side. No one is above the law when it comes to respecting our national symbol,” he said.
T’gganu UMNO Youth issues apology
Terengganu UMNO Youth chief Tengku Haphiz released a 2-minute-33-second video on Facebook yesterday (Aug 12), admitting the mistake and taking responsibility.

He explained that the design was made by a freelance volunteer and uploaded without proper checks.
The person (who designed the poster) is indeed a freelancer. It’s our fault as we didn’t notice either. So, we uploaded it, posted it, put it on our page.
Supports call for investigation
The video began with a phone conversation between Tengku Haphiz and Akmal, where he called Akmal “boss” and expressed support for his statement.

I just spoke with the honourable Datuk Dr. Akmal Saleh, UMNO Youth Chief of Malaysia, regarding a posting that was uploaded to the Youth’s page — the poster that allegedly had 12 stripes instead of the correct 14.
He said the freelance designer created the image after being inspired by a previous “upside-down flag” case, but the error was unintentional.
‘This is about the nation’s dignity’
Tengku Haphiz stressed that Terengganu UMNO Youth would not compromise on matters involving the Jalur Gemilang.
He urged all political leaders and youth groups to unite in protecting the dignity of the flag, adding that the matter is not about UMNO’s political interest but about national respect.
