Two teenagers have been formally charged in court over the 20-year-old university student who was found dead in her Cyberjaya condominium last month.
Accused brought to court
On Thursday, July 10th, 19-year-old odd-job worker M. Sri Darvien and his girlfriend, D. Thineswary, also 19, appeared at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court.

They were charged with the murder of Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student from the University of Cyberjaya.

Timeline of the alleged crime
According to New Straits Times, Darvien is accused of committing the murder between 9.11pm and 11.31pm on June 23rd.
Thineswary allegedly abetted him earlier that same day at around 12.30pm.
Both incidents took place at Block A of Mutiara Ville, Cyberjaya.
Charges and penalties
Darvien faces a charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or, if not imposed, imprisonment between 30 and 40 years along with at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Thineswary was charged under Section 109, read with Section 302 of the Penal Code, for allegedly abetting the crime and will face the same penalties if found guilty.
No pleas were recorded as the matter will be handled by the High Court, but both accused confirmed they understood the charges.
Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani presided over the case.
Defence and prosecution statements
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin did not offer bail and asked the court for time to complete forensic and post-mortem reports before transferring the case.
Darvien’s lawyer, M. Manoharan, and Thineswary’s counsel, Mohamed Baharudeen Mohamed Ariff, both requested an urgent transfer to the High Court, with Baharudeen citing public attention on the case, as reported by The Star.
Raja Zaizul Faridah explained that the prosecution must serve relevant documents to the defence before applying for transfer consent, and the court fixed September 11 for the next mention.
Victim was found with fatal head injury
20-year-old Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, a physiotherapy student at a private university in Cyberjaya, was found dead in her condo unit on June 24.

She was alone in the unit as her housemates had returned home for the holidays. Her friend discovered the body and alerted police.
There were no signs of forced entry or sexual assault, but her belongings—including a laptop, iPhone, and ATM card—were missing, and a post-mortem confirmed she died from blunt force trauma to the head.
