At the start of the week, the news that dominated national headlines was the fatal stabbing incident that took place at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Utama 4 on Tuesday (Oct 14).
Following the tragedy, teachers at the school have since taken matters into their own hands to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future.
Metal detectors used to sniff out dangerous weapons
In a series of photos shared by a netizen named Sharil Azri on Facebook, it showed teachers at the school inspecting the students’ school bags with metal detectors.

This was to ensure that students do not carry forbidden items or dangerous weapons to school.
In the caption, Sharil said the photos weren’t generated by artificial intelligence (AI), but were real photos taken at the school itself.
‘Let’s build a better nation together’
He also called upon various parts of the community to play their role in building a safer environment for students.

“To parents, we must constantly remind and talk to our children. We must also show concern and ask about their daily experiences at school. They need our attention and presence during this phase of their lives.
“We must start by caring for our own children, then extend that care to their friends. That’s a role we can all play.
“Get to know each other. Create bonds. Just like in the old days where our parents knew our friends, and their parents knew us too.
We’ve lived disconnected from our communities for too long, especially in urban areas. Let’s restore that harmony.”

Sharil also called upon parents to instill the values of kindness and knowledge to their children, adding that these two has to “go hand in hand”.
“Together, we build a better nation, inshaAllah,” he concluded.
