Malaysia’s mixed doubles team of Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei saw their first-ever Olympic run come to an end at the quarter-finals after they were defeated by South Korea’s Kim Won-ho-Jeong Na-eun.
They lost to the world No. 8 pair 19-21, 14-21 in a match which lasted for 41 minutes yesterday (Jul 31).
Tang Jie-Ee Wei disappointed by loss
During the first set, Tang Jie-Ee Wei were trailing behind 10-12 when Ee Wei fell while trying to return the shuttle and seemed to have injured her back in the process.

She then had her back sprayed before resuming the match, where they eventually lost in the closely-fought set.
As for the second set, the Malaysian pair were facing a 1-11 score and despite their efforts to close the distance, they lost the second set as well.
Speaking to Badminton World Federation (BWF) after the match, the duo expressed disappointment over not being able to advance further in the tournament.
We prepared well but we are still not mature enough to handle some situations on court. Everyone has pressure and we just had to handle it only but unfortunately, today we did not make it,” said Tang Jie as quoted by The Star.

As for Ee Wei, she admitted that she was in pain but didn’t want to dwell on the matter for too long, adding that her Olympic experience has been a “good one”.
Remaining M’sian shuttlers at the Olympics
Following Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s exit, the remaining shuttlers at the Olympics are Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, and Lee Zii Jia.
All of them will be competing today (Aug 1) at 2.30pm, 7pm, and 8.10pm respectively (Malaysian time).
