Suspected Gas Leak At Penang Clinic Leads To Evacuation, 43yo Staff Hospitalised

The situation was declared under control at 9.47am.
A suspected gas leak incident at the Perak Road government clinic in Penang caused alarm this morning after a clinic staff member experienced breathing difficulties and lost consciousness.

She has since been transported to Penang General Hospital for further treatment.

Reports of abnormal gas-related situation

According to NST, the Fire and Rescue Department stated that the incident occurred at 9.13am at the government clinic located in the Jelutong area.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene following reports of an abnormal gas-related situation within the premises.

Upon arrival, rescue personnel conducted immediate checks and confirmed that no gas leak was detected at the location. The situation was subsequently brought under control.

Victim sent to Penang General Hospital

The department stated that the affected victim is a 43-year-old female laboratory technician at the clinic.

She had already been sent to Penang General Hospital by relevant authorities before firefighters arrived at the scene.

The source of the suspected gas abnormality has yet to be identified.

Firefighters then carried out comprehensive monitoring and inspection of the clinic. Detection results found no traces of gas leakage or chemical spillage.

Oxygen levels within the affected area were recorded at 21%, which falls within normal and safe range readings.

Situation declared under control at 9.47am

As an added safety measure, windows in the affected space were opened to improve ventilation and stabilise indoor air quality.

After confirming that environmental readings remained normal and posed no further risk, the incident commander declared the situation under control at 9.47am.

All inspection and safety confirmation procedures were completed, and the Fire and Rescue Department officially concluded its operation at 11.06am.

Investigations into the cause of the suspected gas-related incident are ongoing.
