Suspected Drunk Driver Loses Control Of Van In Kajang, 6 Injured Including 7yo Child

A suspected drunk driving incident in Kajang has left six people injured after a van was struck and overturned in the early hours of the morning.

The accident took place along the Kajang-Semenyih Bypass, heading towards Kajang, at around 1.20am today.

The tragedy was first brought to light in a Facebook post shared in the Bandar Teknologi Kajang group.

Van overturned after being rear-ended

According to Kosmo!, Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the crash occurred when a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old man suddenly lost control.

The car, identified as a Range Rover Velar 2.0, rammed into the rear of a Mazda E1709 Wagon van.

The impact caused the van to overturn onto the left side of the road.

6 injured, including 7yo

Six individuals, including the van driver, were injured in the incident.

The victims, aged between 7 and 51, are currently receiving treatment at Hospital Kajang and Hospital Serdang.

Fortunately, the driver of the Range Rover did not sustain any injuries.

Driver tested positive for alcohol

Police investigations revealed that the suspect tested positive for alcohol. He has since been detained and remanded for two days to assist with investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Nurul Shaffika Mohd Shair, at 013-2091766.

Police also reminded road users to always drive responsibly, follow traffic rules, and stay alert while on the road.

The incident has once again sparked concerns over drunk driving and its potential to cause serious harm to innocent road users.
