If you or someone you know is receiving Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), here’s some good news you might’ve missed.
Since June 15, 2023, there’s a special initiative called the MADANI Medical Scheme that lets eligible STR recipients get free treatment at selected private clinics across Malaysia.
So, what exactly is it?
This scheme was introduced by the government to make healthcare more affordable for Malaysians, especially those in the B40 income group.
Instead of relying only on public hospitals or clinics (which are often crowded), eligible individuals can now head to private clinics without paying out of pocket.
Sounds great, but where can you use it?
Right now, the MADANI Medical Scheme is up and running in 10 selected areas across the country. These include:
- Kuala Lumpur
- Selangor: Gombak, Hulu Langat, Petaling, Klang
- Johor Bahru
- Kinta (Perak)
- Northeast Penang
- Kota Kinabalu (Sabah)
- Kuching (Sarawak)
More locations may be added in the future, but this is where it’s available at the moment.
What’s actually covered under the scheme?

Now here’s the best part. This isn’t just a free consultation and nothing else kind of deal.
The scheme covers a decent range of treatment services, including:
- Consultations
- Check-ups
- Medications
- Minor procedures
- Follow-up referrals
Basically, it’s enough to cover your average visit for common acute issues.
How much can you claim?

The coverage amount depends on your STR category. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- RM250 for households with families
- RM125 for senior citizens without a spouse
- RM75 for individuals who are single
These amounts are allocated per year, and once it’s used up, you’d have to wait until the next cycle. But still, super helpful, right?
How do you use it?
Here’s the easy part. You don’t need to sign up or fill in forms.
Just bring your MyKad to any participating private clinic. That’s all. No pre-registration required.
Not sure which clinics are included?
No worries. You can head over to the ProtectHealth website to:
- Check if you’re eligible
- Find the nearest registered clinic
- Learn more about how the scheme works
It’s all listed clearly there.
What if you own or work at a clinic?
The scheme is still open to more clinics joining the panel.
If you know someone running a clinic, they can apply to be part of the MADANI scheme via ProtectHealth.
The more clinics sign up, the easier it’ll be for more Malaysians to access free healthcare without long wait times.
So, if you’re eligible or know someone who is, this is worth checking out.
A quick visit with your MyKad is all it takes to start getting the care you need, completely free.
