Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has called out irresponsible littering in Bukit Bintang following Christmas Eve celebrations, urging the public to “grow up” and stop embarrassing Malaysia.
His remarks came after photos circulated online showing Jalan Bukit Bintang blanketed with rubbish in the early hours of Christmas Day.

The images showed discarded cups, bottles, plastic bags and other waste strewn across sidewalks and roads in the city centre, an area that typically draws massive crowds during festive seasons.
“Please stop littering & don’t embarrass Malaysia”
Reacting to the situation, Nga did not mince his words, saying there was no excuse for such behaviour in this day and age.

Please stop littering and don’t embarrass Malaysia. It is already the 21st century, there is no reason for anyone to simply throw rubbish in public places,” he said.
Calling the scene “shameful”, the minister added that enforcement should not be blamed when action is taken.
It is so shameful to see such irresponsible behaviour. Don’t blame the government when we enforce the law. Grow up, please.”
Following the festive night, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur shared photos of its cleanup operations in Bukit Bintang, showing workers clearing rubbish and restoring cleanliness in the area.
“Cleaning works were carried out in the city centre to ensure the surrounding environment remains clean, orderly and comfortable for everyone,” DBKL said in its post.
However, the local authority noted that irresponsible littering by certain individuals continues to affect the cleanliness and image of Kuala Lumpur.
“There are still individuals who dispose of rubbish indiscriminately, which negatively impacts the cleanliness and image of the city,” it added.

Public urged to stay responsible during celebrations
While acknowledging that people were celebrating Christmas Eve, DBKL stressed that festive cheer should not come at the expense of public cleanliness.
“Even as the public celebrates festive nights, the responsibility to maintain cleanliness must remain a priority.”
DBKL also reminded the public to make use of the rubbish bins provided and to take care of shared public spaces, emphasising that individual actions can have a significant impact on keeping Kuala Lumpur clean.
