"Whatever happens on the field or court, let us not be swayed by personal issues and emotions."
After a crash during the men’s keirin final at the Olympics, the brother of national cyclist Shah Firdaus Sahrom has asked Malaysians not to attack the Japanese cyclist involved.

Ridwan Sahrom, who is also a track cyclist, posted on Instagram, urging fans to stay calm and avoid blaming the Japanese rider.

He reminded everyone that such crashes can happen in keirin events, and it’s not fair to point fingers.

However, some Malaysians are upset, believing that Shah Firdaus could have won a bronze medal if the crash hadn’t happened.

The incident involved Shah, Japan’s Shinji Nakano, and Great Britain’s Jack Carlin, with all three crashing just before the finish line.

Shah was later moved to sixth place after officials said he veered into Nakano’s path.

Many are blaming on the Japanese competitor

Some Malaysians have taken to Nakano’s Instagram, leaving negative comments.

Shah Firdaus himself has asked fans not to criticize Nakano, acknowledging that the crash wasn’t intentional.

“I hope that Malaysians who support and watch sports events, especially on such a big stage, will also help maintain the good name of the country. Whatever happens on the field or court, let us not be swayed by personal issues and emotions. We are a country known for our politeness and manners; may this be reflected in the sports context as well.”

Shah expressed his disappointment, saying it’s hard to accept missing out on a medal, especially when he was so close to winning.
