With the Malaysian passport ranked as the 12th most powerful passport in the world, it’s no wonder that some would do anything to land their hands on one.
That’s was exactly what one man from Sri Lanka tried to do, except that his master plan to snag one didn’t quite go the way he expected.

Sri Lankan man poses as 10yo boy in order to get M’sian passport
According to a Facebook post by the Penang State Immigration Department, its director Nur Zulfa Ibrahim wrote that the man came to the UTC Komtar Immigration Office to apply for a Malaysian passport.
He was also accompanied by a Malaysian woman, who told immigration officers she was his mother.
However, the officers sensed that something was amiss when the man produced documents which stated that he was a 10-year-old boy, a claim which didn’t fit his physical appearance at all.

Adding on to the officers’ suspicion was also the fact that the man couldn’t seem to understand any of questions being posed to him.
“Acting on this, a preliminary investigation was conducted by the head of the office on the man and his ‘mother’ and it was found that he couldn’t speak Malay or Tamil, the language spoken by many Indians in Malaysia.
The woman later admitted that she had been paid to pose as the man’s mother while the man confessed to being a Sri Lankan,” said Nur Zulfa.

She added that the duo were subsequently arrested under the Passport Act 1966 to facilitate further investigation into the matter.
