Since Malaysia started enforcing the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) requirement on July 1, thousands of Singaporean drivers have already gotten into trouble for ignoring the RFID rule.
According to the Road Transport Department (JPJ), a total of 3,910 summonses were issued to Singapore-registered private vehicles that entered Malaysia without installing or activating the RFID tag.
The compounds have already collected RM1.17 million in total.

Drivers who were caught were told to pay the RM300 compound. JPJ also warned that their vehicles can be detained if they refuse to settle the summons.
According to Kosmo, JPJ issued 1,269 reminder notices to Singapore based company owned vehicles that are still refusing to fix the RFID tag to their cars.
JPJ Senior Director of Enforcement Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan told reporters that those who have received summonses must pay immediately, while those who received reminders should install their RFID tag as soon as possible before they get fined next.
The inspections were carried out in Johor Bahru at three locations outside the CIQ areas which are Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar and Taman Daya.
JPJ also urged Singaporean company vehicle owners to take the notice seriously if they do not want to get hit with a heavier punishment on their next visit to Malaysia.
