Singapore-registered vehicles long have a bad reputation in Malaysia as they’re often caught pumping subsidised RON95 petrol, which is reserved only for locals.
This time, one such vehicle has gone viral for the wrong reasons yet again—not paying the bill after refuelling.
Drove off without paying
China Press reported that the incident took place at a petrol station located along a highway in Skudai, Johor, at around 9pm on Wednesday (Jan 21).
A staff member from the petrol station told the Chinese daily that the Lexus SUV pulled up and the driver requested for a full tank of RON97 petrol but payment was not collected upfront.
Meanwhile, a woman, who was also in the SUV, came out and went into the convenience store to purchase some items.
“After the woman was finished with her shopping, she returned to the SUV and the driver drove off.
“As we were busy at the time, we didn’t realise they had left without paying. We then tried to chase after the SUV but failed.
“Other drivers parked nearby also witnessed the incident and honked to alert the couple but they didn’t stop,” the staff recounted.
May be forced to foot bill
The staff member added the the SUV was filled up with 45 litres of RON97 petrol, which amounted to RM139.01.
“If the driver does not return to make payment, the bill will have to be borne by the petrol station and staff who assisted with the refuelling. On top of that, that staff may face a salary deduction too.
“We hope netizens can help remind the driver to return to the petrol station as soon as possible and pay the bill.”
China Press reported that a police report will be lodged if the driver doesn’t return after 48 hours.
