Malaysia’s 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results have shown overall improvement, with the national average grade (GPK) rising to 4.42, compared to 4.49 in 2024.
Education Ministry director-general Mohd Azam Ahmad said the latest results mark the best performance since the introduction of the Standard Secondary School Curriculum (KSSM) in 2021.
Overall performance continues upward trend
Azam noted that the GPK has steadily improved over the years:
- 4.86 in 2021
- 4.74 in 2022
- 4.60 in 2023
- 4.49 in 2024
- 4.42 in 2025

“I am pleased to share that, overall, candidates’ performance in SPM 2025 is the best since the introduction of KSSM,” he said during a press conference announcing the results.
Slight dip in straight As, but more A+ scorers
A total of 13,779 candidates achieved excellent results with A+, A and A- in all subjects, slightly lower than 13,827 candidates in 2024.
However, the number of top scorers who obtained straight A+ increased to 376, compared with 352 in the previous year.
The number of candidates achieving at least a credit (Grade C) in all subjects rose significantly to 92,347 in 2025, up from 86,040 in 2024.
Urban-rural gap narrows further
The achievement gap between urban and rural candidates has also narrowed to just 0.04 points.
- Urban GPK: 4.40 (2025) vs 4.47 (2024)
- Rural GPK: 4.81 (2025) vs 4.92 (2024)
A total of 413,299 candidates registered for SPM 2025, an increase from 402,918 in 2024.
Candidates can collect their results from their respective schools starting 10am today.
They can also check their results online via the official portal or through SMS services, available from 10am today until 6pm on April 6.
Azam congratulated all candidates, saying their achievements reflect hard work, dedication, and resilience throughout the examination year.
