What was supposed to be a night of splashing, wet fun to celebrate Songkran quickly descended into chaos after a fight ensued among participants.
A clip of the fight has since gone viral online and prompted a police investigation into the altercation.
Fight breaks out at Songkran Festival at PJ mall
In the 56-second clip circulating wildly on Facebook, it showed hundreds of participants brawling with each other outside a popular mall in Petaling Jaya.
As their ‘weapons’ of choice, they were seen picking and hurling plastic chairs at each other. One of them was even seen tossing a metal barrier amidst the chaos.

Meanwhile, another group of men let their fight spill out to the open, where they continued to land punches on each other despite the heavy rain.

Police probe opened on viral clip
When contacted by Malay Mail concerning the viral incident, Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja’far said no one has lodged a police report over it so far.
However, he added he has since instructed the Damansara police station chief to lodge a report himself so that investigations can officially begin.
