After the High Court rejected Najib Razak’s bid to serve his sentence under house arrest, his daughter Yana Najib took to social media to share her reaction to the decision.
In a series of Instagram Stories on Monday, Yana reposted excerpts from the court’s ruling explaining why the alleged addendum order for house arrest was deemed invalid.
“The High Court judge decided that the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s addendum order is invalid because the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was alleged to have not complied with procedures and had issued an order that violated Article 42 of the Federal Constitution,” read one of the slides she shared.
‘Sorry everyone, not good news today,’ she writes
Yana followed up the post with a short personal message, writing, “Sorry everyone, not good news today…” accompanied by crying emojis.

She later reshared another excerpt from the judgment, which stated that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is a constitutional monarch whose powers must be exercised in accordance with the Federal Constitution, including when it comes to the prerogative of mercy.

“The addendum order was not deliberated or decided at the 61st Federal Territories Pardons Board meeting. There was no compliance with Article 42 of the Constitution,” the ruling stated, adding that the order was therefore not valid and could not be enforced.

Personal message to Najib as he remains in Kajang Prison

In another Instagram Story, Yana reposted a news graphic confirming that Najib would remain incarcerated at Kajang Prison, along with a personal message addressed to her father.
So so sorry daddy. I can’t imagine how you must be feeling at this moment. Have lots of patience, okay? We live to fight another day, as always. Take care of your health daddy, that’s the most important thing,” she wrote.

Court ruling means Najib stays incarcerated, appeal to follow
Earlier on Monday, the High Court ruled that the alleged addendum order said to have been issued by the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong was invalid, as it had not been deliberated or approved during the 61st Pardons Board meeting.
The ruling means Najib will continue serving his prison sentence for now, although his legal team has confirmed that an appeal will be filed against the decision.
