Recently, a man sparked discussion online after sharing his discomfort over what he described as his stepdaughter’s overly affectionate behaviour towards him.
Man says stepdaughter often acts “too close”
According to mStar, the 39-year-old man explained that he married a woman in her late 40s who has two children from a previous relationship.
My wife is in her late 40s. I married a widow with two kids. The eldest is 21 while the youngest is still in school,” he wrote.
However, he said he has recently begun to feel uneasy around the eldest daughter, claiming that she often behaves in a way that seems overly close to him.
I’m starting to feel uncomfortable because the eldest likes to cling to me. I told her it doesn’t look nice if people see it, but she doesn’t care. Her mother doesn’t say anything either,” he shared.
Claims they often go out together
According to the man, he is usually the one who sends his stepdaughter to college and picks her up, which means they spend a lot of time together.
We go out to eat and shopping together… it’s starting to feel like we’re a couple,” he said.
He also claimed that there was one instance where the stepdaughter sent him a message addressing him as “baby”, which made him feel even more uncomfortable.
Worried it could affect his marriage
The man said he has been married to his wife for four years and they have yet to have children together, although he said that has never bothered him.
However, he admitted that his stepdaughter’s behaviour has been worrying him more over time.
When people were celebrating Valentine’s Day, she invited me out for a birthday dinner. My wife couldn’t join because she was working. I thought we were just celebrating her birthday, but the table was set up like a Valentine’s dinner,” he wrote.
For now, he said he tries to treat the situation normally as long as it does not cross any boundaries.
If it goes too far, I’ll have to tell my wife. Or maybe my wife asked her daughter to test me? Maybe she wants to see how I react,” he added.
Netizens advise him to be honest with his wife
Many netizens who came across the post urged the man to speak openly with his wife before the situation leads to misunderstandings.
Just be honest with your wife and let her handle it. It’s dangerous if you let this continue for too long,” one commenter wrote.
Others warned that keeping the issue to himself could eventually damage his marriage if it escalates.
