Ever since RON95 was subsidised solely for Malaysians only, there has been countless incidents of Singapore-registered cars illegally pumping their vehicles at petrol stations, sparking anger.
This issue was brought up another notch following a fiery Threads post by a Singaporean woman, who accused Malaysians of being hypocritical by taking away jobs from locals but cry blue murder when foreigners use RON95.
Double standards at play?
In the post, the OP attached screenshots of Singaporean news outlets reporting about two separate incidents: the first being delivery jobs allegedly being snagged by foreigners, including Malaysians, and the second about a Malaysian man who was fined for working illegally as a delivery rider.

She then made her displeasure known in the caption, stating that Malaysians had no right to complain about Singaporeans coming over to use RON95 or enjoy cheaper goods when they steal jobs from locals.
Malaysians slamming Singaporeans for crossing the border for cheaper groceries & petrol…funny. We don’t complain when you come here to work, take up jobs, or when your riders work illegally and steal delivery jobs meant for our locals.
“Moral of the story: before you judge, look in the mirror,” she wrote.
Heated reactions
As you’d expect, the post drew a wave of angry reactions from Malaysians, who felt unfairly called out by the OP.
‘Working with a valid visa is legal. Stealing subsidised petrol is not. How about you use your “world class education” and fathom that simple concept. It’s not that hard, really.’

‘Malaysian cheaper petrol is subsidised, hence ONLY citizens can buy it. Delivery rider…umm who orders from them? Singaporeans. Why would you complain about expats working in Singapore? Your nation thrives because of these expats. You’re comparing between cheating for petrol and legal stuff.’

Another told the OP that more foreigners are taking up jobs from Singaporeans as no locals are willing to accept positions that require intense labour, adding that “Singapore will sink” if foreign workers were to leave permanently.
