A Singaporean woman recently sent netizens laughing after her LinkedIn post concerning a case of mistaken identity went viral.
This comes after she proudly declared to everyone about her once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pose for a photo with the former CEO of DBS Bank, only to have it politely shattered by the real CEO himself.
SG woman poses with man she thought was Ex-DBS CEO
In the LinkedIn post, the woman wrote she was at a cafe in Bali, Indonesia, when her eyes landed on a person that left her feeling starstruck.
I glanced across the room and thought, ‘That looks an awful lot like Piyush (Gupta). Curious, I walked over — and sure enough, it was him.

“What struck me wasn’t just the legendary career — transforming DBS into a global digital banking leader — but the humility and presence with which he carried himself. No entourage. No airs. Just quiet conviction,” she wrote.
For the next few minutes, the woman chatted with the man and shared about her future plans, including an all-women expedition in Mongolia as part of the support for the Goh Chok Tong Enable Fund.
However, things were about to take an extremely strange and awkward turn.
‘Sorry, but it’s not me’
In the comment section, the real ex-CEO of DBS Bank decided to set the record straight by simply writing: “Sorry to disillusion you. That isn’t me!”

In case you were wondering how Piyush Gupta looks like IRL, here’s a photo of him:

Upon being corrected by Piyush himself, the woman expressed slight embarrassment over the mix-up before doubling down by claiming the man “had (Piyush’s) charms right on and said all the right things”.
Honest mistake or next-level baiting?
Some netizens were tickled by the LinkedIn post, with them commenting on how similar the random man looked with Piyush.

On the other hand, some accused the woman of cooking up a fake story to garner clicks and engagement for the post.
