Upset that her request to stop exercising was flatly rejected by her neighbour, a Singaporean woman flew into a rage and assaulted the latter with a mop and eggs.
In fact, the altercation got so heated that the woman even bit the victim on the arm before throwing a bag of rubbish and an incense bin at her.
SG woman hits neighbour with mop for refusing to stop skipping rope
According to CNA, the accused, Jessinta Tan Suat Lin, was at a condominium at Westmont with her husband and teenage son on Feb 16, 2024, where they all were residing at.
At around 10pm, the victim, a 26-year-old master’s degree student, began skipping rope at a common area near the swimming pool while wearing a pair of headphones.

Irritated that the noise caused by the victim skipping rope was disturbing her son, Tan went to the common area and told the victim to stop, but her request was rejected.
In response, Tan spewed a string of vulgarities at the victim before returning to her house and throwing five to six eggs from her window, some of which hit the victim’s back.
She then proceeded to grab a mop before confronting the victim again, where the two of them got into a scuffle. Amid the struggle, the victim managed to grab the mop away but dropped it to the floor when Tan bit her on the arm.

Picking up the mop, Tan hit the victim’s head several times with it, causing her to bleed. In fact, Tan used so much force that the mop’s aluminium pole broke into three pieces.
When the victim moved away and contacted the police, Tan hurled a bag of rubbish and a metal incense bin at her, both of which thankfully missed.
For the assault, Tan was arrested but later released on bail of S$2,000 (approx. RM6,500), with her husband acting as her bailor.
‘I’ll kill him in his sleep’
On Apr 28, Tan got into an argument with her husband when he refused to leave the bedroom despite their son wanting to practice a speech in the room. Tan’s husband was also upset at Tan after she spoke to their son in a rough manner.

Following the argument, Tan sent a text message which read, “I’ll jump bail next month” along with obscenities — a move that would cause him to lose the S$2,000 he had placed as her bailor.
Later at night, Tan told her son these chilling words:
I will just kill him one day. He might just die one day in his sleep. One day, when I am really mad, he will die in his sleep. He better lock his door when he sleeps at night.”
She also threatened to report her husband to the police for raping her, prompting him to lodge a report immediately when he overheard the conversation.
Expressed regret in court
In court last Thursday (Jan 2), Tan pleaded guilty to one charge each of committing a rash act, voluntarily causing hurt and causing alarm with threatening words.
Two more charges will be taken into consideration before her sentencing.

According to Tan’s lawyer, he said his client was a “loving mother” who had a strained relationship with her husband.
He added that Tan was ready to apologise and compensate the victim she assaulted for jumping rope at the common area, which was an isolated incident.
He also said Tan was “deeply disturbed” by what she had done and is too ashamed to face her son again.
Tan was ordered to be assessed at the Institute of Mental Health on her suitability for a mandatory treatment order (MTO) and remains out on S$10,000 bail (approx. RM32,900) before her sentencing on Feb 11.
