A female customer became so upset over not being able to have less ice in her drink that she lost her cool and threw straws at a staff member.
The boss of the tea franchise later posted a TikTok video which the staff member revealed what happened prior to the altercation.
‘Less ice’ request rejected
According to the video posted by LiHo founder Rodney Tang, the customer ordered a drink using a student discount and asked for less ice.
However, she was informed that she couldn’t opt for that as drinks purchased with the student promotion cannot be customised.
Despite this, the customer allegedly insisted on the request and demanded that her order be prioritised.
Meltdown
After the staff prepared the drink with the standard ice level, the customer threw it towards her.
When the staff remade the drink, the customer was caught on CCTV grabbing a handful of straws and throwing it towards the former before walking away angrily.
Customer claimed to be lawyer
Mothership reported that a 17-year-old staff told Shin Min Daily News that the customer showed a student pass while claiming to be a lawyer.
She kept shouting at us, repeatedly asking for our names, saying she wanted to find our supervisor, and claiming she would call the police.”
A day after the incident, Tang paid a visit to the outlet at Hougang Mall to check on the affected staff.
He added in the clip that two staff members were so shaken by the customer’s outburst that they reportedly broke down in tears.
“This customer lost her mind, verbally abused our staff, and even threw objects. All we can do is report to the police.
“We will also review and refine company policies in hopes of preventing similar incidents in the future,” he said.
Police confirmed that a report was lodged and that investigations are ongoing.
