The well-known saying, ‘The customer is always right’ is often uttered whenever one working in the food and beverage (F&B) industry has to deal with irate or annoyed customers. But is it true all of the time?
A Singaporean woman found herself on the receiving end of brickbats from netizens after she complained about a food stall which allegedly refused to accommodate to her food allergy.
Claimed stall refused to remove egg from char koay teow
In the July 21 post shared to the Facebook group Complaint Singapore, the woman wrote that she ordered char koay teow from a stall at the Malaysia Boleh! food court in Bugis.
She then requested that no eggs be added into her meal due to a food allergy.
However, the staff allegedly told her that they couldn’t do so due to “company policy”, an answer which didn’t sit well with the woman.
She then went on to say how such policies could put the lives of people like her in danger.
So even if the person consumed (sic) and die from the egg, is the Malaysia Boleh going to compensate for the life?? Is that the company policy too?
“I’m a HR (Human Resources) so I’m very concerned what kind of corporate values this organisation have?!” she blasted in the caption.
The woman also claimed that despite telling the staff not to add eggs into the char koay teow, they still did so anyway.
To her shock, the staff then asked her whether she wanted more eggs to be added, causing her to express deep exasperation: “So want now eggs free is it? Can ask to add more but can’t do without?!?”
‘Don’t buy there lor!’
If the woman was hoping to garner sympathy from netizens with the post, she was left sorely disappointed as she got the total opposite.
A handful of netizens called her out for her seemingly entitled attitude and told her she had the choice to patronise another stall.
‘Don’t buy from them lor.’
‘Don’t eat la why you so mafan (troublesome). Should complain (about) you to your company.’
Another suggested that she cook her own food if she was so concerned about her food allergy.
Some also poked fun at the woman’s claim of working in the HR Department as her actions didn’t seem to reflect it.
