A GrabFood rider in Singapore tried being really smooth in nicking a pair of slippers, only for him to put it back to its original location.
When confronted by the owner, he concocted a rather ridiculous excuse in an attempt to brush away accusations of theft.
SG rider caught taking slippers before putting it back
In a video posted on Instagram by @sgfollowsall, it showed the rider making a delivery on Jan 21 at around 4.11am, according to the CCTV footage’s timestamp.
After hooking the bag of food by the door handle, the rider then snaps a photo as proof of the completed delivery.

However, as he walked away from the unit, the rider is caught taking a pair of Adidas slippers from the rack before disappearing from the CCTV’s view.
After about 30 seconds into the clip, the rider is seen putting the slippers back on the rack in a hurry, perhaps afraid that he would be caught in the act.

Not long after, the unit owner opens the door and takes the food order. But it’s not clear whether they noticed anything amiss.
Denies stealing, claims was checking for ‘anti-slip soles’
At 4.14am, the owner texted the rider and confronted him for his attempted theft of the slippers and threatened to call the police.

At first, the rider tried to feign innocence and denied taking the slippers, but he later cracked when the owner told him that everything was caught on the CCTV.
According to the rider, the reason why he took the slippers was because he simply wanted to check if its soles were anti-slip or not.

In the comment section, netizens left their thoughts on the incident, with some saying the rider probably chickened out when he realised the existence of the CCTV.

One joked that the rider returned the slippers after discovering it was the wrong size.

Others however, were more sympathetic, saying that his guilty conscience had stopped him from following through with the theft.

Suspended from Grab
When inquired by MS News about the incident, a Grab spokesperson said the company was aware of it.
The spokesperson also said the rider was suspended from the platform after an investigation was carried out.
