Mechanical failure reason for crash
In a Facebook post shared a netizen who had inside knowledge of the incident, he wrote the Mercedes was travelling at speeds of 229km/h before crashing into the barrier at about 180km/h.
The netizen added that brake failure was later found to be the culprit behind the harrowing crash.
“Driver was told the braking system was upgraded. While the real details (remain) unsure, we can see brake failure at T15 back straight, one of the two longest straights in Sepang,” he wrote.

As for the driver, he sustained spinal injuries due to the crash and is currently in the hospital.
“Let’s all pray that he makes a full recovery. He did very well to manage the situation,” added the netizen.
