SG Man Spills Hot Oil On Stall Assistant After He Got Angry Over Sold-Out Churros

He was fined RM15,600 by the court.
While no one likes it when something they’ve waited for a long time is no longer available, it’s still not an excuse to cause bodily harm to innocent parties.

A Singaporean man took his anger out on a stall assistant after he discovered that the churros had run out and proceeded to spill hot oil on her, resulting in burns.

SG man spills hot oil on stall assistant over sold-out churros

According to Shin Min Daily News, the man, 46-year-old Lee Hui Yong and his family attended a Halloween bazaar held in the Bedok Community Centre on Oct 28, 2023.

At 9.45pm, he queued up at a stall selling churros but left for a short while to look around the bazaar and returned at 10pm.

After waiting in line for two minutes and it finally came to his turn, Lee was told by one of the stall assistants that the churros had sold out.

Needless to say, Lee wasn’t happy to hear that and didn’t buy the explanation that the stall closed at 10pm.

As his temper grew, Lee began gesturing aggressively at the assistant with his hands and hurled obscenities towards her too.

During the altercation, another sales assistant was standing an oil fryer. As the argument escalated, Lee jerked his body, causing the table to topple and the oil inside the fryer to spill on the other female assistant’s body.

Screaming in pain, the assistant was immediately taken to the toilet to run the affected area with cold water before she was admitted to the Singapore General Hospital.

She was subsequently treated for burn wounds to her right forearm, her right hand and her right upper abdomen.

Fined RM15,600 by court

On June 20, Lee pleaded guilty to harassment under the Protection from Harassment Act 2014, and causing hurt by doing a rash act.

He was then ordered to pay S$4,500 (RM15,600) in fines as well as S$32,180 (RM111,800) in compensation to the sales assistant.
