SG Man Spends Close To RM40k Finding A Wife But Still Ends Up Single

Sad.
Desperate to get himself out from the singles’ market, a Singaporean man spent more than three years and a huge sum of money searching for the ideal woman to be his wife.

Sadly for him, he still remains very much single to this day, something which he blamed a matchmaking agency for his misery.

SG man spends close to RM40k finding a wife but fails

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the man surnamed Wang said he was introduced to a Vietnamese matchmaking agency named True Love Vietnam Bride Matchmaker, where it called itself “the preferred international matchmaking agency for bachelors looking for the perfect life partner”.

On his first try at the matchmaking website, Wang travelled to Vietnam and met a woman named “Ah Hua”, whom he paid S$2,000 (approx. RM6,600) in betrothal fees.

To his shock, she later told him that she was actually engaged to someone else.

If I wanted to marry her, I had to pay her the betrothal gift right away and hold the wedding the following month. Only then would she break off the engagement and marry me instead,” he said.

Unfortunately, things between them soured and they parted ways following multiple disagreements.

Wang was then introduced to another woman by the agency, where he was informed that he had to pay the full amount before arrangements could be made to bring the woman to Singapore.

But when he did, his hopes were once again crushed as the woman was unable to enter Singapore. By this time, he had already spent S$12,000 (approx. RM39,600) in total just to find a wife.

“Now I have spent about $12,000 and still have not married anyone,” Wang remarked bitterly, adding that he believes the agency had scammed him.

‘We introduced at least 20 women to him’

When contacted by the Chinese daily, the agency’s director, Mark Lin, denied cheating Wang of his money, adding that a total of 20 women were introduced to him.

“I have been in this business for 23 years. Most customers need to meet only one or two women before falling in love and getting married.

“But Mr Wang has dragged it out for so long and has seen so many women but still can’t get married. Whose problem is that?” he said.

Lin also said he had to pay Vietnamese agencies while helping clients find the wife of their choice.

“He looked at more than 20 women, and the agency fees I paid for him were almost $7,000 to $8,000 (approx. RM23,100 to RM26,400). I didn’t make much money,” he argued.

As for the second woman who couldn’t enter Singapore, Lin said registering the marriage beforehand would increase her chances of entering the country.

“If you register, it means you want her to enter the country as your wife, but I am not the one getting married. If he doesn’t go through the procedures, I can’t do anything about it,” he added.
