A man in Singapore was so upset by his parents driving his car behind his back that he demanded for a sum of money from his mother as “compensation”.
When the latter refused to oblige, he proceeded to torch some of his mother’s clothes and threatened to raze the house to the ground.
Demanded money from mum
According to Shin Min Daily News, Huang Zhihao (transliteration) called his mother, who was on a business trip to China, on Aug 23, 2025 and told her that she and his father had used his car without permission.

Initially, Huang asked for S$3,000 (approx. RM9,200) from his mother. When she refused, he increased the amount to S$10,000 (approx. RM30,000).
However, Huang’s mother didn’t budge and this caused Huang to threaten to burn the house down before killing the call.
Burns clothes
After the call, the mother called Huang’s twin brother, who was also home at the time, and told him to contact the police.
He then took some of his mother’s clothes from the bedroom and set them on fire over the stove in the kitchen.

When police turned up at the house, they saw that the clothes were burning away on the stove. Thankfully, neither Huang nor his brother were hurt.
Huang was arrested on the same day and charged with one count of mischief two days later.
He was later remanded at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for a psychiatric evaluation.
Jail time
In court, Huang admitted fault and said he will take full responsibility.

Huang’s lawyer noted that the mental health assessment report found that Huang’s condition wasn’t behind the burning of his mum’s clothes and asked the court to show leniency as no one was hurt in the incident.
Huang was eventually sentenced to five days in jail.
