SG man begs for forgiveness & stabs arm with scissors
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News about the terrifying incident which took place last Saturday (May 24), a store employee surnamed Zhong (transliteration) said the 45-year-old suspect was a regular at the store.
She added she saw the suspect picking a radio and several memory cards but noticed both of his hands were empty after he walked out from a blind spot.

Upon checking CCTV footage, Zhong realised the suspect had hidden the items inside his bag and ran after him, where she found him drinking nearby.
After bringing the suspect back to the store, Zhong called her boss, who arrived not long after. The man, who had been calm all this while, suddenly dropped to his knees and kowtowed while pleading to be let go.
However, the store owner refused as he was worried it would embolden others to commit theft in the future.
In a move no one saw coming, the suspect then grabbed a pair of scissors, tore open its packaging, and stabbed his left arm with it before smearing his blood all over himself.

Another store employee told Shin Min Daily News that the suspect’s upper body was extremely bloodied, particularly his hands — a sight she described as “terrifying”.
Suspect taken to hospital
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) later told Mothership that it received a call regarding the incident which took place at Hougang Green Shopping Mall at around 3:20pm.

As for the suspect, he was sent to the hospital in a conscious state and subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act.
He’s also assisting police in their investigation into the theft.
