Back in August, Singaporean influencer Genie Yamaguchi was caught for stealing beauty products worth more than RM1,800 (S$600) from Japanese retail chain store Don Don Donki along Orchard Road.
Following her arrest, she pleaded guilty to charges of theft and awaited her fate as the court adjourned sentencing to Sept 23.
Details of theft
Yamaguchi, a social media influencer who owns a preserved flower service and a beauty aesthetics clinic, stole a total of 27 items from the Don Don Donki store along with her friend Lee Suet Keay Cheryl, on Aug 25, 2024.

The 27 items mostly consisted of beauty products and the duo placed them into a cart and left the store without making payment.
They were later caught after a supermarket staff member reported the theft to his manager, with the police being notified not long after.
Ordered to wear electronic tag
Prosecutors previously requested an assessment for a Day Reporting Order (DRO) as Yamaguchi did not have a criminal record.
For the uninitiated, a DRO is a community-based sentence that requires the offender to report to a day reporting centre for monitoring, counselling and rehabilitation programmes.
Her lawyer agreed to the prosecution’s request, adding that Yamaguchi expressed remorse for her actions and had compensated Don Don Donki for the stolen items.

The court eventually issued a DRO to Yamaguchi for three months, where she will be required to wear an electronic tag and observe a nightly curfew from 10pm to 6am every day, reported The Straits Times (ST).
