A video recently surfaced online showing a delivery rider of a popular platform dragging two massive bags of food order across the floor at a shopping mall in Singapore.
His actions later led to his suspension not long after the clip went viral. However, it has also sparked a wave of sympathy and outrage from netizens.
SG delivery rider drags food order across floor
The clip was shared with Singaporean news outlet Stomp by a reader named Dan, who said the incident took place at Suntec City on Apr 13.
In the 12-second video, the rider is seen almost fully hunched over while dragging two plastic bags bursting with food across the floor while making his way towards the carpark.

Speaking to Stomp, Dan said that while he was sympathetic towards the rider having to carry such a huge amount of food, he argued the rider could have made two trips instead of dragging the food order across the floor.
I do sympathise with him as it was a lot to carry, but he could have just made two trips. It was food he was managing. I can’t imagine if it was my order being dragged on the floor to me.”
Dan also asked whether the delivery platform had any quality or service protocols in place to ensure such actions do not occur.
Rider gets suspended
When queried by Stomp regarding the clip, the delivery platform said the rider has since been suspended over the incident.

“We take hygiene seriously and have temporarily suspended the delivery-partner involved for breaching our code of conduct.
“We have also followed up directly with the partner to reinforce the importance of maintaining proper hygiene during all deliveries,” it said.
The delivery platform added that riders are reminded to initiate a split order directly from the app if they receive orders too large for them to manage.
“This will immediately trigger our system to assign another delivery-partner to assist with the delivery without impacting the delivery-partner’s earnings or the customer’s delivery fees.
“The split order function helps prevent cancellations and delays by ensuring such deliveries can be completed more reliably with additional support,” it explained.
Outcry from netizens
However, the rider’s suspension didn’t sit well with netizens, who were upset over the lack of compassion shown towards him and slammed Dan for shaming him online instead of offering help.

Some also speculated that the rider might be suffering from back problems which may have forced him to drag the food order across the floor.
