On one evening, a passenger handed him a backpack that had been left behind when he pulled into the interchange, prompting him to contact the operations control centre about the backpack.

Unbeknownst to Chen, the backpack owner had already lodged a report 25 minutes before the call was made.

After completing his shift, Chen drove all the way to the Bishan Interchange to return the backpack, where interchange staff found over S$14,000 (approx. RM45,800) in cash inside.

The staff then called the owner, who arrived at the interchange 30 minutes later and was deeply relieved to have her backpack back.

It was later revealed that she planned to use the cash to open a bank account.

Chen expressed joy in returning the backpack, saying:

I can only imagine how worried the passenger must have been, so I’m happy I could return it. It’s about doing the right thing.”

The backpack owner commended Chen for his honesty and wished him “all the best in his work.”

As for SBS Transit, they also praised Chen, writing: “Chen Long’s dedication to doing what’s right truly embodies our CARES culture in action, showcasing integrity, accountability, and outstanding service. Thank you, Chen Long, and a job well done!”
