In a shocking twist, Yap Chin Boon, the suspect behind the Setia Alam mall shooting, treated hotel staff to fried chicken just hours before a fatal shootout with the police in Pulau Ketam.
The 35-year-old, also known as ‘Ah Boy,’ had been on the run for 10 days.
He was believed to be planning an escape to Thailand via boat, as he claimed his passport had been blacklisted, preventing him from traveling by air.

The suspect’s final hours
Reported by Buletin TV3, Yap arrived in Pulau Ketam yesterday afternoon, taking a ferry from Port Klang.
He checked into a local hotel around 5.15pm, wearing a cap and informing staff he would be staying for three days.
According to a Pulau Ketam resident who wished to remain anonymous, the suspect had asked about boats traveling to Thailand.
He reportedly told the resident he wanted to reunite with his wife and child, who were allegedly in the country.
Before heading back to the hotel, Yap purchased fried chicken and handed it to the hotel staff as a gesture of goodwill.
“I didn’t suspect anything about him,” shared Cha, a hotel employee.
He seemed normal and polite when he checked in. But at 3am, I was startled by gunshots and was immediately told by the police to evacuate the building.”
Police operation turns deadly
The operation to capture Yap was conducted by officers from Bukit Aman and the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK).
It ended in a dramatic shootout when Yap, armed with a firearm, opened fire on the police, forcing them to retaliate.
The suspect was killed in the exchange, marking the end of a 10-day manhunt.
This is the first incident of its kind at our hotel, which has been operating for 31 years and has 42 rooms,” Cha added.
