Whether you’re an ordinary citizen or a vendor selling food, it’s important to ensure your fingernails stay short and clean as untrimmed fingernails can trap dirt, bacteria, and unwanted substances.
A food handler in Seremban was made to pay RM1,000 in fines after he was found to not have kept his fingernails short, which is an offense under Malaysian law.
Fined RM1,000 for untrimmed fingernails
According to a report by NST, the 42-year-old food handler, who was unnamed, was pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah at the magistrate’s court on Friday (Apr 18).

Based on the charge sheet, the accused had committed the offence at 9.55am on June 23, 2024 at a fast food restaurant in Seremban.
The charge was framed under Section 33(1)(a) of the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, which is punishable under subregulation 33(2) of the same regulations, where it carries a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or imprisonment not more than two years.Â
After making the guilty plea, the accused was fined RM1,000 by the court.

The accused was unrepresented in court while the prosecution was headed by Seremban District Health Office assistant environmental health officer Mohd Yusri @ Mohd Yusof.
