Tragedy struck on Chap Goh Mei after a mother and her son were found dead inside their home yesterday (Mar 3).
According to China Press and Sin Chew Daily, the incident took place at about 8pm at the Taman Sahabat People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Teluk Kumbar, Penang.

Neighbours smelt stench coming from unit
The duo’s deaths were brought to light after residents noticed a foul smell emitting from the unit.
A police report was then lodged and police later turned up at the scene. At 8.17pm, they requested for assistance in prying open the unit’s locked door from the Seri Balik Pulau Fire and Rescue Department.
At 8.32pm, firefighters arrived and used special equipment to forcefully open the door.

When they entered the house, they found one body in the living room and another in the bedroom.
The victims were later identified as 72-year-old Li Deqin and Lin Donghong (both transliteration). Police later confirmed that they were mother and son.
Cause of death unknown
After police carried out preliminary investigations at the scene, the rotting bodies were sent to the mortuary for a post-mortem.

Police are currently investigating whether the deaths were due to natural causes or if any criminal elements were involved, but an official statement has yet to be released.
