With the holy month of Ramadan currently underway, hundreds of thousands of Muslims across Malaysia are fasting from dawn before breaking fast at dusk.
A Malaysian recently took to social media to call out an outrageous display of food wastage at a mosque in Shah Alam, where boxes of roti canai were seen stacked inside a trash bin.
‘Think about others!’
In a Threads post, the OP shared a photo he took at the Shah Alam mosque, where several boxes of half-eaten roti canai piling up inside the trash bin.

He then directed his ire towards irresponsible individuals who wasted all the food, writing:
To those who come for iftar, moreh, or sahur, please don’t behave like this. Taking a lot of food and then throwing it away when you don’t finish it. Don’t you feel guilty?
“It’s sad because there are other worshippers who come later and end up not getting any food. In the end, they only get to drink water.”
The OP also claimed some took two to three servings for themselves but never finished the food.
Backlash
In the comment section, netizens were horrified by the amount of food being thrown away and expressed their displeasure.
‘This is the mentality of a greedy person who wants to take everything because food is free. Many cases have occurred at mosques everywhere.’

‘Food wastage during the Ramadan month is the highest, up to 75,000 tonnes. It’s embarrassing to see fellow Muslims acting like this. Please don’t give in to temptation and eat only when you’re hungry.’

‘Pity seeing the food (in the trash bin). If I saw it I’d give it to stray animals.’

To Malaysians fasting during Ramadan, please be considerate of others and only take the necessary amount of food for yourself!
