Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, has broken her silence following the latter’s conviction in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal last week.
She was quite candid with her emotions surrounding the reactions over Najib being convicted of 25 corruption charges during a special interview at her residence with Berita Harian.
Disappointed by gleeful reactions
Speaking to reporters, Rosmah said she was disheartened to see several political leaders expressing jubilance over Najib’s conviction.
“What is saddening is when there are parties who take joy in the hardship and trials of our family.

No matter how much they hate Najib and me, I feel there is no need for anyone to take joy in our hardship.”
Rosmah also denied accusations that she was the chief architect behind Najib’s political downfall and said she largely draws strength from her family and close friends, who know the real story amidst negative narratives.
Focusing on family
Rosmah added she now mainly pours her focus into her family and surrenders other matters to God as she believed that is how “justice and truth may prevail in the future.”
She also said her routine mostly consists of caring for her grandchildren and family while being supported by friends and relatives.

“Prayer, Quran recitation…all my practices for God need no elaboration. Surely, as a wife, I am always praying for my husband,” she said.
Rosmah added that she no longer gives public opinions or get involved in government administration matters so that misunderstandings or slander can be avoided.
“Many come asking for advice, and so on, but I no longer want to interfere. If I speak, surely some will say I am meddling in matters unrelated to me.”
‘Najib misses watching his grandkids grow’
When asked what was her husband’s greatest regret in life, Rosmah said it was the missed opportunity to see his grandchildren grow up.
He missed many milestones in the family. That is what we regret the most. All the grandchildren love their grandfather and often ask about Najib. We try our best to protect them and share as much as we can.

“Despite the hardships, I must remain strong for the family and maintain a calm image,” she added.
Last week, the Kuala Lumpur High Court convicted Najib of four charges of misappropriating 1MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering.
He was sentenced to 15 years in jail and fined more than RM11 billion.
