SUNGAI ARA – Residents of a flat in Seri Delima were sent running after strong winds blew off the roof of a mini-stadium yesterday (Feb 8).
Around 20 residents, including several children, successfully escaped as the roof was sent flying and landed on the iron fence near the flat at 5.15 pm.
According to Kosmo Online, the residents were at a nearby shop and by the steps of the stadium prior to the incident.
An eyewitness named Nor told Kosmo that she was shocked to hear panicked screams coming from the area.
“Everything happened within 10 seconds. The winds continued to send the roof flying until it landed near the flat.
“Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported aside from three cars and motorcycles which were trapped underneath the roof,” she said.
The roof was later removed by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).
