According to Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail, he said the altercation first sparked when the victim’s employer, who’s also the prime suspect, confronted him for allegedly stealing RM40,150 in cash, a gold necklace, and a nose stud on Jan 4.

Although a police report was lodged over the missing items, the suspect was still dissatisfied and decided to take matters into his own hands by holding the victim, his wife, and father hostage for close to a month.

Wan Azharuddin added the victim was later beaten by both the suspect and several other Rohingya individuals over the alleged theft.

As a result of the beating, the victim suffered bruises and wounds to his thighs, legs, and back, which were likely caused by blunt force trauma. His hands and feet were also tied with a rope.

His body was later found by his wife at 10.30pm on Jan 28, where it was wrapped in a bedsheet, placed in a tub, and buried under soil at a house near the area.

A rope and several weapons believed to have been used in the assault were found during an examination of the crime scene by the forensic team.

The 35-year-old employer was arrested after he was caught in two video recordings holding the rope and beating the victim. He was also found to have a prior record under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
