Mamaks are usually seen as wallet-friendly places for Malaysians to grab a drink or quick meal with friends. However, sometimes that may not be the case.
A man recently took to Threads to question whether was it reasonable for a mamak in Johor Bahru to charge him RM17 for an apple milk lychee drink he ordered.
‘Is this normal?’
In the post, the man’s receipt showed that aside from the apple milk lychee drink, he also ordered iced water, half-boiled eggs, maggi goreng, nasi kandar, and a cup of iced Horlicks.

All of the items came to a grand total of RM46, with the apple milk lychee drink taking almost half of the bill’s amount at RM17.
He also asked netizens whether charging RM17 for the drink was considered to be justified.
“Is it normal to charge RM17 for an apple milk lychee drink at the mamak? Has anyone encountered this before?” he wrote.

Shocked reactions
Reactions towards the drink was one of disbelief, with netizens expressing horror over the price tag.
‘Was it a standard cup or a big mug? But mamaks are really expensive! Even USA fried rice costs RM15!’

‘Oh, my God. The price is so ridiculous!’

Another joked that the OP could have used the RM17 to buy lychee, tinned milk, and an apple to make the drink himself.
