A Singaporean woman accused a stall of charging exorbitant prices after she discovered that a cup of iced Milo was more expensive than beer.
However, the stall defended itself by claiming that the woman’s husband was informed of the prices and raised no objections.
‘Why is Milo more expensive than beer?’
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the woman surnamed Liang (transliteration) said she and her husband went to dine at a Vietnamese stall located at the first floor of The Bencoolen mall on Jan 2.

When her husband came back with the drinks they had ordered, she was shocked to find out that the iced Milo cost S$5 (approx. RM15.70), which was more expensive than the S$3 (approx. RM9.40) beer.
“I tried to reason with the staff but their attitude and explanation left me feeling unsatisfied.
“Milo should be affordably priced, and such pricing places a burden on consumers,” Liang argued.
Stall’s side of the story
When queried about the incident, the stall’s owner, Ms Mai, expressed bewilderment and said it was Liang’s husband who ordered the drinks that day.

Before preparing the beverage, staff had clearly informed him of the iced Milo’s and he didn’t say a single word of complaint. Thus, we never expected his wife to be the one to complain about our prices.
“Menu prices were clearly displayed and if customers feel it’s too expensive, they can choose to walk away. I don’t understand why some complain even after the fact,” she said.
Mai added that high rental and rising operating costs had led to some items seeing a price adjustment but said the stall had never received a complaint about its prices throughout its eight years in business.

However, some customers told Shin Min that while they can accept Vietnamese specialty coffee being sold at S$5, they wondered why iced Milo was set at the same price.
