Mixed/economy rice, also known as chap fan among Malaysians, has long been known to be a popular choice of meal due to its affordable pricing compared to most eateries.
Sadly, the name is quickly losing its original meaning in recent years, with customers complaining that they’re being charged more than what they believe is reasonable.
Was charged RM13.40 for mixed rice
In yet another instance of customers allegedly being overcharged for mixed rice, a netizen took to Reddit to share a photo of his meal at a stall in Petaling Jaya.
Based on the photo, he took a serving of vegetables, meat, and white rice, where a single drop of curry or sauce wasn’t spotted.

Thus, it was of no surprised when he expressed disbelief over the RM13.40 price tag, writing sarcastically: “RM 13.40 for this (my) friends. Hidup (long live) ‘economy’ rice.”
The OP also revealed that the stall had air-conditioning and “fancy lighting”, which may have contributed to the pricing.
‘What the heck?!’
Netizens were equally as shocked as the OP over the mixed rice’s pricing, with many agreeing that it was way too expensive.
‘RM13?! Lucky you didn’t slap the owner.’

‘Nowadays, they shouldn’t label just ‘economy’ rice, but rather ‘premium economy’ rice.’

Meanwhile, one joked that the stall owner probably didn’t like the way OP looked and decided to charge him more for his meal.

In Ipoh, a worker was allegedly assaulted by a man who wasn’t too happy over being charged RM13 for his meal:
