SG Woman Stunned By RM1,012 Roasted Meat Platter, Claimed Staff Never Told Her The Price

The restaurant insisted that the customer had been informed of pricing beforehand.
A woman in Singapore was left deeply unhappy after she was forced to fork out a huge amount of money for a roasted meat platter.

To add insult to injury, she alleged that the staff never once told her how much it was—an accusation that the restaurant strongly denied.

Bad experience from start to finish

According to Shin Min Daily News, the woman named Lee shared on social media that she patronised the restaurant on Feb 22 and had purchased a 50% discount voucher from an online platform earlier.

After being seated, Lee said staff served pineapple tarts and told her they were complimentary. However, the bill later showed that she was charged $36 (RM111) for it, leading her to question whether it was complimentary at all.

She also said the 50% discount voucher applied only to dim sum and selected dishes, which wasn’t disclosed to her beforehand.

However, the coup de grace was the roasted meat platter, which was recommended to Lee by the manager.

“I asked why wasn’t the dish stated on the menu, and the manager only said it was a “special arrangement” but never once mentioned the price.

It was only when I made payment did I realise that platter cost S$328 (RM1,012). This is unacceptable. I feel misled and price transparency should be a customer’s most basic right,” she wrote.

Based on a photo of the platter, Lee was served 10 pieces of suckling pig, 12 pieces of roast pork, and a portion of roasted duck.

Restaurant disputes story

When Shin Min reporters visited the restaurant, they confirmed that the menu didn’t state the price of the roasted meat platter.

The menu only listed the price for a whole suckling pig (RM1,320), a whole roast duck (RM302), and a serving of roast pork (RM98). Pineapple tarts were listed at RM67 per serving.

The restaurant manager told reporters that staff always inform customers of pricing when taking orders, adding that Lee was fully aware of the platter’s price.

A spokesperson also told the Chinese daily that there had been a miscommunication between Lee and its staff but the issue has since been resolved.
